The sun has set and shows once more the stars
They glow into the darkest nights of all
Because tonight in the dark they will fall
And in the sky will forever leave scars
We will strenuously move from town to town
Searching for little ground to place our roots
Let it be fertile and bear us some fruits
Let no one no more upon us frown
Tonight there is no star to guide us home
And our hopes have trembled for so long
Since we first parted I could not belong
Neither there nor in Berlin nor in Rome
We have no other path if not ahead
It’s shaping up to be each day more narrow
Each day less is the ground for the harrow
More is the craving less is the bread.
